You are cordially invited to a virtual workshop on the topic of just transition on November 2, 9-11 a.m. (EST) / 2-4 p.m. (in Germany) – an initiative of the Canada-Germany Energy Partnership between the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and Natural Resources Canada.
The study Supporting just transitions in Canada and Germany aims to contribute to a better understanding of the challenges in achieving a just transition, analysing Germany’s sixty-year experience in managing the decline of its once 600,000-workers-strong coal industry and highlighting key lessons-learned for policy-makers.
The lessons drawn from this decline as well as from the policy measures and strategies employed are useful for policy-makers in Canada and other countries, who work on the coal phase-out or the transformation of other traditional energy sectors.
In the workshop, we will present the findings of the study and discuss how to support a just transition in Canada and Germany with a panel of Canadian and German experts and practitioners – including from Iron & Earth, Mount Royal University and the University of Flensburg.
